It was a winter night.....and the town seemed to be deserted. Where were all the people? On a clear night like tonight, there should be plenty of people roaming the streets, window-shopping in the boutique windows and the large showroom window of the only department store in town, Goodsens. Even the town square, where children were usually seen trying out their ice skates on the frozen pond or playing tag amongst the trees, was void of life and activity. What could have happened here? *Hope this gets your story started! Best of luck!*

It was a winter night. I felt my legs lift from the ground and follow the white bird's path that trailed along the movements of air.

My head seemed to clear once I set foot on the grounds that surrounded the small, crooked house, my home I had been away from for what seemed like an eternity. I could hear my mother tongue calling from the rustling trees, the voices of my ancestors rumbling through the dusty earth at my feet, the song of my dead father coming from the throat of a sad and melodious bird. I was home again.

When I returned home Mother was not there. Instead, there was a man leaning against our door, sipping guava juice through a straw. He told me the lady of the house had left to search for her son, and that he had taken residence. I looked down on him and winced. His feet stank of manure.
