How can companies can strengthen their competitive advantage?

I am doing a report on 2 different industry, which is GM Holden and McDonalds in Australia, and one of the question ask:
Comment how companies can strengthen thier competitive advantage.

Make more socially, medically and environmentally aware products. Consumers are getting smarter and wiser, so cater to that.

If McDonalds sold healthy vegetarian fast food, and GM Holden made green-powered vehicles, then the world would be a better place. And I bet they'd make more money, too, because customers will feel more respected by not only saving money, but also by contributing to improving the health of themselves and the rest of the planet.

The most sure way is to eliminate them . It's a funny thing about free enterprise ... it's much more profitable to have a monopoly.
