We use remotes coz it's convenient and most of us are too lazy to change the channel. Getting up, finding the batteries and changing them before getting a blister on your thumb and lots of @!#@! words? NEVER!

We are all too cheep to just replace the batteries. We have to squeeze every last ounce of juice out, hey, after all, batteries are expensive, you wouldnt want to waste 5 laps of flippin through the channels.

Actually this is a bit different.
Sometimes remotes just have poor electrical contacts. Especially if my baby has been drooling on it.
So I give it a shake and squeeze the buttons and sometimes it works again.
