When I figure it out meself, luv, you'll be the first to know. Well, actually you'll be the second. You being the first implies just that - you WERE the first. But if I found out and THEN told you, you would most certainly not be the fist. You'd be like second (possibly third or fourth because I might tell someone who happens to be in the room or the goldfish or something my unique discovery) in which case I suppose I'd have to say something like "When I find for meself, luv, you'll be the second or even next person to know" and, well, that's not nearly as effective as "You'll be the first to know" now is it? No, it's like telling your boss "I've finished the report for our fourth quarter earnings. You can read all about it in the financial section just like everyone else." I mean that really just takes away all the specialness, you know? Bu there's just no way around it. YOU did the report so YOU will be the first to know. But one could hardly say that to one's employer could one? That simply would not do. "You'll be the second to know." Piffle! Maybe if you did the report with your eyes closed then you would have no idea what it said and there would finally be some truth to that whole you'll be the first to know cliché. But, then you wouldn't know what it said, it said anything at all. It would read like absolute gobbledegook and you'd probably get fired. So, I think what you should do is hire an accountant or something from an outside firm to do the report but then...oh now HE would be the first to know and it STILL wouldn't work. Technically, you could just kill him and hide the body in the day-old produce section at Price Chopper (no one ever looks there anyway). That way he'd still be the first to know but you could lie and no one would be any wiser. Of course, that hardly seems fair. Murdering an accountant for doing a job which you commissioned. But then, no one ever said life was fair. Life, existence is paradoxical in its very nature. Just look at that old saying "When I find out, you'll be the first to know." Because actually, you know, you'll be the second if you really think about it....
