I really like this dress that I found for prom, but I hate my arms. Would a nice sweater look good with this dress? If so, do you have any suggestions with links? Any other suggestions for accessories would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

The silver or gold lame boleros have been created ages ago for this occasion. You dont know how many women think of their arms as big, small, flabby, skinny, long, short, etc.
Depending on the weather, this accesory also comes in velvet, silk and netting. Its main purpose is to make your outfit look more together. Hiding some perceived flaws of your body is only one of the side benefits.
If you cannot find such an accesory, a shawl made of the same skimpy material will also work.
Last suggestion- ask a couturier. You may have some friends who are excellent with the sewing machine and designing clothes.
While good quality shawls cost around the 500 dollars plus category, you can find lovely ones for less ( eg, pashmina shawls) and those also come in silk, cashmere and regular fabrics.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not but for such a big occasion wouldn't you want to try the dress on before you buy it. It's a beautiful dress but if the fit is all wrong would you be stuck with it? There are so many great stores out there selling prom dresses. Many different styles and sizes to choose from. Anyway, have a great time at prom.

I understand completely about not loving your arms. I'm in the same boat, so here's what I'd suggest. Get a shawl that compliments the dress. After you've put the dress on, have someone take 2 safety pins and pin the shawl to the BACK of the dress, letting the arms (is this the correct term??) of the shawl hang down the front. This way, you won't ever have to worry about the shawl slipping or riding up in the back. It will always stay in place.

By the way: LOVELY dress!!

Have fun, sweetie!

The dress is beautiful I think a sweater or maybe a real nice shawl. They are back in style now. You could probably find a real nice one made of satin or beaded but I bet you can find something that would go just perfect. Have a great time at the prom I think that the cover that bubblesO sent the web site to is perfect.

No, no sweaters, a lace shawl or stole would be far more lovely and sophisticated with it. And of the two a stole would probably look best because the length of it coming down in front will give you a more vertical line that will be more slimming and if you can find a shawl with a bit of sparkle in it, either in the yarn or beaded, it will be a gorgeous accessory. I'd go with white or silver, too, and you can wear it for more occasions than one prom night.

That dress is gorgeous! Nice taste!

But that color with going to require some care when selecting an accessory, especially a sweater.

I don't think a sweater would be the right touch here, your dress is so elegant, but if you do go with a sweater make sure you get the exact look you are going for.

I would suggest a long evening wrap, there is so much variety in these things that they can be customized to strike the right tone when you walk into the room. have a look at this one:

Whichever you choose, I'm positive you will look fabulous!

Enjoy your prom! And stay safe!
Hope I helped!

I suggest you get a shawl. The same color as the dress or the cream color will be nice. A sweater is kinda too casual to go with the dress. Especially for prom.

do not wear a sweater with that!!!! take fashion advice from someone who really knows fashion not those people who shop at the mall and wear those tacky fake uggs over jeans. i know all about fashion because my mom has worked for vogue for over 15 years! okay lets get back to the dress. its not exactly chic. but for normal people i guess it would be nice. do not ever wear a normal sweater over a dress that is tight right below your bust and flares out. no no no! if you really hate your arms that bad then if you seriously want a coverup then either wear a ralph lauren wrap sweater or a shawl that only covers up a little bit of your back, none of your shoulders, and most of your arms. you want the guys to see something! ;)

hey,
well, most time a sweater wouldn't look good with a dress. Unless you have really hairy arms i saw no sweater. Go to the mall and go to a fashionable store and ask one of the people who work there. That is what I do. Try it?

A sweater will never look good with a prom dress...who cares...people worry to much about what other people think...Always have told my kids: You can walk into a room with 20 people in it...and most likely everyone will have a different opinion...when you walk out the door...baby...your's is the only one that matters...go for it...you more than likely hate your arms...but no one else notices...girls always hate certain things about themselves..get use to it...we all do!
