I have read that older versions of the ipod (non video type) will play video podcasts as audio only - is this correct?

I have used the latest version of Itunes to convert my video podcasts to M4V format but they do not download to my ipod so that I can listen to them.

It's unlikely unless you do some serious tweaking!

How about you 'extract' the audio from the video to create a whole new file.

Go here: http://www.aoamedia.com/audioextractor.htm and download the free audio extractor. Once you have extracted the audio, put it onto your iPod and... kerching! :D

If that website or program doesn't work, or you'd prefer to use something else, try putting "Extract audio from video" into google and see what it comes up with.

Hope this helps.

Not in my experience. Some podcasts release video podcasts with the audio version seperate for people like you & me.

regrettably there are not many gamers that help m4a documents, yet you may get a software & convert them and use mediamonkey. that software is fantastically wonderful. it additionally has ipod help so which you will replace it on there.
