first of all, it is Pi (π), not PIE. Pi is the mathematical constant found by dividing the circumference of the circle by its diameter. C / D = Pi

It's pi (π) a greek letter, not pie.

Pi is defined in math as the radio of the circumfrence of a circle to it's diamater.

Wikipedia has a great animation on their pi page to illustrate it.
