This is solving, not factoring
3 over (x+4)(x+1) + 2 over (x-4)(x+1) = 4 over (x-4)(x+4)
multiply by (x+4)(x-4)(x+1)
3(x-4) + 2(x+4) = 4(x+1)
3x-12 + 2x + 8 = 4x + 4
5x - 4 = 4x + 4
x = 8

ANSWER x=8

3/(x^2+5x+4) + 2/(x^2 - 3x-4) = 4/(x^2 - 16)

You should now factorize the denominators
(and remember the identity a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)(a-b))

3/(x+4)(x+1) + 2/(x+1)(x-4) = 4/(x+4)(x-4)

Now multiply equation by (x+4)(x-4)(x+1):

3(x-4) + 2(x+4) = 4(x+1)

3x-12+2x+8=4x+4

x = 8

(3 / (x^2 + 5x + 4)) + (2 / (x^2 - 3x -4)) = 4 / (x^2 - 16)
(3 / (x + 1)(x + 4)) + (2 / (x + 1)(x - 4)) = 4 / ((x + 4)(x - 4))
(3(x - 4) + 2(x + 4)) / (x + 1)(x + 4)(x - 4)) = 4 / ((x + 4)(x - 4))
(3x - 12 + 2x + 8) / (x + 1)(x + 4)(x - 4)) = 4 / ((x + 4)(x - 4))
(5x - 4) / (x + 1)(x + 4)(x - 4)) = 4 / ((x + 4)(x - 4))
5x - 4 = 4x + 4
x = 8

3/(x + 4)(x + 1) + 2/(x - 4)(x + 1) = 4/(x - 4)(x + 4)
3(x - 4) + 2(x + 4) = 4(x + 1)
3x - 12 + 2x + 8 = 4x + 4
x = 8

Okay this is mostly solving, but what you do is

1. break down the trinomials

2. find the LCD for all of them which is (x+4) (x-4) (x+1)

3. then get rid of the denominator, multiply all by the LCD

4. then distribute , add like terms and solve for x

answer is x=8

simple good luck...try it till you understand and then check your answer! goodluck!!!!
