paying the man? Attached is a link to celebrity's most expensive divorces. That's what brought up my question. Why, ESPECIALLY if the wife is the one that wants the divorce, must a man split the money HE earned with his wife? What happen to equal rights?

Listen buddy, the law hasn't been fair to men for many years. Look at all the fathers paying for their children but have very limited visiting rights. What does the society think men are? I will tell you, the society thinks fathers are just paychecks and women are driving the law and pushing the law so men have to keep defending themselves as a gender and never even get into the real issue.Don't let people(women) tell you otherwise. Women would throw a couple of examples where the women were paying and all of a sudden, these women think equality is at work and tell men not to complaint! Women would keep recycling a few of the same old supposedly unfairness( equality in pay, equality in employment, etc) all of which have long been debunked

It's not always the men. I know it seems that way, but it all comes down to whoever makes the most money. That person usually is the one stuck with the alimony and whoever gets the kids gets paid child support. Some of these celebrities earned their fortune after they got married, so the money is partly the spouses, too. 50% here in California where it's a community property state.

Nobody said life is fair, my friend, there is a lesson here if you have money before you marry... be careful who you marry, or sign a pre-nuptial agreement.

If the dude makes more money, the dude pays. Those celeb couples divorcing were all examples where the man made more. I think in cases like the Jessica Simpson/Nick Lachey divorce, the woman pays because she's the stronger earner.
Just be careful who you marry. It's not about equal rights, it's about the law (50% in CA) and about how mean people get when they break up.

Actually, I know of cases where the wife had to pay support because she was the primary wage earner.

(*shrug*) Celebrity divorces are something else. Sad little people with too much money and no emotional integrity who marry for all the wrong reasons.

Most men have been program to chase and beg and compete and Pay Pay Pay for women. If they don't another man will and the one that doesn't remains alone. But if he follows through, he lowers himself and has a good chance of being taken to the cleaners financially.

Actually women do have to pay men alimony sometimes... it depends who made the most money- like Britney Spears... she had to pay K-Fed a lot of money even though he didn't do a dang thing when they were married.
