I loved it so much I started out at 14.Not knowing how to skate but took lessons (power skating school).I joined a house team and that was the start of it all.My 1st year won a bronze metal in Canada, Toronto for most valuable player on the team.I had 2 goals and 2 assists against an all star team from Canada.I ended up in 4th place in scoring at years end and 1st in penalty minutes. Not everyone plays a physical style game like me and can score and be a playmaker. It doesn't come easy its how much you want it and do you really love to play the game.Take notes by watching the pros.Especially during the playoffs its the greatest game on earth and one of the fastest.I also recomend inline skating also can benefit from it.I also took a book from the library on how to skate and learning the game of hockey.I also recomend to try it out see if your ice arena has drop in hockey. You play against people with different talent levels but there is no checking and probably no slapshots either but is still fun regardless.Take care and nothing like scoring your 1st goal happy skating never to young or old to play.

Hi. I play Ice hockey in South Florida. I am a woman and grew up in Florida. I learned to play hockey 8 years ago. Now I play on both a house and a travel team. My team just won the Florida state champoinship at our level. It is so worth learning. I say go for it. All rinks that I have been to in this state have learn to play classes. You start with hockey1 and go from there. I have some of the best friends I have ever had had from playing. I get to travel and have good exercise too. If you are still a kid. It is the best. They have everything for you guys. There is at least one player from Florida palying in the NHL system. I know his first name is Dallas. I can't remeber his last name. He is from Dade City. So anything can happen. Go hit the ice and have fun!!!!

If you like hockey and want to play go for it. There are plenty of rinks in FL. and since a lot of people migrate there from northern cities there are plenty of capable teachers. You also have a nice little advantage that kids in the north dont. Warm weather year round. It is pretty expensive to get ice time and that hurts a lot of kids from northern areas, you can lace up rollerblades year round and work on your game daily. If you like hockey you should give it a try, regret is somethinhg that is hard to get rid of later on if you dont. Just because hockey isnt big there like it is in the north doesnt mean anything.....there are plenty of Canadien kids who forego hockey for baseball (and a few are playing MLB right now).

well, no one in florida cares about hockey so you could do very well w/out much practice, i guess. there's less competition in florida hockey so it would be worth it. GO FOR IT!
