Dear Vicki:
Travel near, at, or faster than the speed of light is totally impossible now and way into the future. The speed of light is 186,000 Miles Per SECOND. The fastest man made device so far has only been able to travel at a speed of between 30,000 and 50,000 Miles Per HOUR. That is about one part in 250 of the speed to come close to what you suggest. I would not bet any money on science fiction stories yet. If you do, your money will surely be wasted.

The phase velocity of certain waves does travel faster than light. The most recent thinking is that there is no fundamental limitation to finding some way around the speed of light conundrum, but having a solution may not mean that it will be practical to use it.

It will never be done.
The speed of light is an incident and an incident takes a certain amount of time.
When the universe came into existence it started with a space-time pulse of minimum size and duration.
To try to force something to surpass the speed of light would be attempting to force it to exist for a length of time that cannot exist

there have been experiments in the near past that have proved that the limiting velocity theorem can be wrong.
an experiment carried out by passing high energy gamma radiation through a special kind of glass produced results that the radiation went through at a velocity greater than that of light in vaccum.
maybe you are correct, but even if the long considerd to be true, theory of relativity comes out to be wrong, it seems to me such a stupid idea that any human made instrument will possess the capacity of accelarating matter of an appreciable mass so that it crosses the light velocity barrier.

Exactly I have no doubt we can travel atleast with speed of light one day if not faster than that this is not a mere imagination of mine and possibly few other's but achivable. I have an idea of developing an engine which can allow space vehicle at speed of light, although it based on simple newtons third law of motipon that is For every action there is equal and oppossite reaction. What I think is we can make such arrangement in a huge interior reflecting tube in which light can be introduced(high intensity) and as we know light has an very small impact(force) on objects where it falls, there when this light leave the tube from another end it will push the tube in oppossite direction at at speed with which klight leaves the tube that is at speed of light in space. This is possible only in space as all bjects are weightless in space.
Well what I have written here may seems akward but i don't believe because law of science are universal and apply everywhere.Presently we may have technological limitation in achieving such engine but will not remain impossible in coming years. i hope you share my opinion.

According to Einstein's Theory of Relativity, we cannot go faster than the speed of light. Time slows down as we reach speed of light, completely stopping when speed of light is reached.

Of course not, everything we know says you can not go faster than the speed of light.
Knowing this, it is possible that we will go faster than the speed of light one day. One thing that history has taught us is that "everything that we know" isn't always right, and we have frequently been proven wrong.
But I still don't think we will.

yeah, there was somthing about somthing being found to travel faster, (don't I sound inteligent) Not so sure about the time stopping though. if that was so for light, then how come it takes it so ong to get here, even from the sun? (eight minuets) if time stopped for the sped of light. it would go any where instantly...

defies the laws of physics and relativity, and sorry to pop ur bubble, but i believe it is true, nothing can travel faster than light, why we have had no ET visits, cause even if there was other life out there, too far to reach us with any ease
