Poland had just been partitioned (1791, 1793 and 1795) between Austria, Prussia and Russia
Polish volunteers joined the French Republic and later Napoleon.
Uprising in 1806 in Wielkopolska (Poznan region)
After the peace of Tilsen (1807) creation of the Principality of Warsaw (Frederick August of Saxony as ruler)
1809- war with Austria. Victory
1812- expedition to Moscow with Napoleon
1814- dismemberment of the Principality of Warsaw (Vienna Congress)
1831 uprising (November uprising)
1853 uprising (January uprising). end of autonomy.

1842 Wroclaw- Olawa railway opened
1845 Warsaw- Czestochowa railway opened
1858 Krakow - Lwow railway opened

1868 increased self government in the Austrian zone
late 19 century- increased forced germanisation in Prussian zone
