No. Castration does not stop the crime. Sex crimes are rarely about sex and are more often about power and anger. Castration will not stop these feelings, and will therefore not stop the crimes.
If it would stop it, I would say go for it.

I've never been abused or known anyone who has but my opinion is that there is no punishment suitable enough to punish scum like that. but whatever it is it should be slow, painful , and let'em heal then think of another slow and painful way and let'em heal and just repeat the process over and over til they either go mad or die. yes this is torture! maybe then it'd stop this kind of crime. cutting off some one's balls is nothing compared to the crime against a child.

This act was a common practice in the treatment of the retarded, so it makes good sense to use the practice in the sex criminals. I think if on the first conviction it was done there would be many sex criminals thinking twice.
