I have painted my motorcycle gas tank twice and it keeps cracking. What am I doing wrong? I do it in 65 plus degrees, get it to the bare metal, sand and prime it, do thin coats, and do a top coat but it still cracks.
Please help.

you need a special type of paint that will expand & contract with the tank and tolerate vibration. Use KBS Coatings... get back down to the bare metal and and apply 2 thin coats RustSeal Paint, a flexible nonporous coating. Then Apply a sandable primer and topcoat.

Where is it cracking? If it's near the filler neck, then the gas is working it's way under the paint when you fill the tank. After I paint a tank I use a little artist brush and put a couple of coats of clear on the top of the filler neck down over the side. This way no gas can get under the paint. Good luck.
