"The Guns of the South" by Harry Turtledove, in which time traveling neo-nazis arm the Confederacy with modern weaponry. A truly fantastic portrayal of alternate history.

I just finished it before I decided to answer questions. It's called Children Who Kill (Profiles of Pre-Teen and Teenage Killers). It's really quite good, certainly informative, but hardly uplifting.
Now you know why I'm on YA--to find something fun to answer!
