To say the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a cult is ridiculous. People who often say that have never attended a sacrament meeting at the church. Many also read about some of the radical sects not associated with the mainstream organization.
Just like Catholicism broke off into many protestant religions, the Mormon religion did too. The biggest breaks were after the first prophet Joseph Smith died and also when plural marriages were banned. Perhaps some of the radical sects could be called cults, but certainly not what is mainstream.
I'm not an active member for reasons we won't get into, but I have respect for their beliefs. If you study the messages communicated in their bi-weekly magazine (The Ensign) from the prophet, watch televised broadcasts out of Utah, and attend a local church ward in your area, you will see that this religion is nothing like it is often portrayed by gossip or the media. The Church always challenges you to find the truth out for yourself - and not to let yourself be spoonfed beliefs and opinions.
To answer your question, yes it is one of the many forms of Christianity - "Jesus Christ" is in the name! The brand "Mormon" was given as a result of their use of the Book of Mormon, which mirrors a lot of the same morality and beliefs portrayed in the New Testament. Members of the Church accept the branding of being Mormon, but most prefer to use LDS (Latter Day Saint) to distinguish themselves from the radical sects that also call themselves Mormons.

That is a complicated question. You will get multiple answers on this one.
The LDS church is the only church that claims to be a restoration of the same church that Christ put in place while on the earth. The LDS doctrine differs from other Christian churches because of modern revelation. The falling away from the original church was prophesied in the Bible. As was the restitution of all things before the second coming of the Lord. All other existing Christian churches, though they worship the same Christ, have all come from the Roman Catholic church at some point in time and have lost many key doctrines that Christ taught. Some principles were distraught or changed, while some were completely lost because their meanings were not understood and were left out during the many translations of the Bible throughout the years.
Because we worship Jesus Christ and follow His examples, commandments, and teachings, we are most certainly Christian. But all Christian denominations follow Christ and have much of the truths of the true gospel. All who follow Christ to the best of their knowledge and ability, are Chrsitian indeed.

Depends on your definition of "Christian"....
Mormons teach that Jesus (read the New Testament) was and still is the Son of the living God, the Savior of the world, and the Redeemer of mankind, one person at a time.
Mormons try their best to live as Jesus taught- be kind to your neighbor (as defined by the parable of the Good Samaritan), help those in need, etc.
No, we don't believe in the Trinity- we believe that the Father and the Son are two separate beings. Some would say this disqualifies us, that we're not Christian because of this.
Oh, well... as I've heard it said, "If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's probably a duck." If Mormons act like Christians, and talk like Christians, they're probably... well, you get the idea.
Edit-
Mr Peeper- you're funny... the Church of Joseph Smith... LOL!!! what about the Church of Martin Luther,er uh, the Lutheran Church?? Hm... something to think about...

OK.. the last answer posted is really wrong!! We don't worship Joseph Smith. YES I can name more the three or four prophets. He even spelled that wrong!!
Yes we are Christian. We believe in Christ, He is the head of our church. He is our savior. We read the bible and learn of Him. We believe in following what He taught. We try to live our lives in a Christ-like manner. I can't say we are perfect, no one besides Christ is perfect, but we try. There will always be people who talk against us, just like there is in any other faith. The only way you are going to learn the truth is if you ask a real member of the church.
Here is a site that might help to answer your question. Feel free to search the site. It's pretty good, and very informative.

We are. We believe in Jesus Christ.
Church websites can be viewed in many different languages. Book of Mormon is available in over 100 languages, including Arabic. I am not suggesting that you read it to convert to Mormonism, but that you read it to understand.

One would get the impression from the official name of the church: "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints", that it is a mainstream christian denomination.
However, there is more emphasis on the works of Joseph Smith than Jesus. The present 'profit' is more revered than any of the first 12 apostles. In fact, most mormons cannot name more than two or three, if at all. Most biblical teachings are trashed in favor of the Book of Mormon Adventures of Nephi as improperly translated.
The Morg is christian in name only. They're nice and all that, but Hitler had admirers too.
It is truly the Church of Joseph Smith since christianity is merely a byproduct of it's doctrinal lesson plans.

Take it from someone who is a mormon, YES!!! we are christian.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, he came to earth the deliver all of us from sin so that we can one day return to him.
We only believe in ONE God, the same as any other Christian.
We read heavily out of the King James Version of the bible and well as other docterine, all of which bring us closer to God.
Oh, and by the way, Our actual chrurch is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.
