From memory I think the skin renews itself every 28 days. For smooth and brightened skin exfoliate 2 times a week and after showing apply moisturiser.

As for your knees...I get the same problem....so when I exfoliate I take to my knees with a pedipad and it removes the dry skin.

First based upon your description you are not very dark. Second if you take care of your skin naturally it will "pop" on it's own. Still I do understand certain colors and styles look good on people and enhance their look. Without seeing you it's hard to say what your color is. There are a multitude of colors that look good on people with a brown complexion. Darker colors with a honey brown complexion usually will give you the contrast you may be looking for.

Drink plenty of water, at least 8 to 10 glasses per day. Avoid spicy food and rub your knees with wet towel after bath. It will take about a month, there is no quick remedy. Black is beautiful, if presented properly.

My knees also have big dark spots just under the kneecap,
it was really bugging me and when I went in to the doctor I
mentioned it to her, wondering if there was any treatment
to lighten the skin. She looked at my knees and said that
the dark spots were callouses, so now when I shower, I take
a pumice stone to the spots and they have lightened up
considerably. Try it and see if it helps you, too,.

Mix a little olive oil w/ sugar to make a scrub.

Or you can rub a lemon half on the skin.

Be sure to moisturuze - a lotion w/ AHA or lactic acid will help promote exfoliation.
