The owner could have turned off the wireless router, or they did not like her stealing their internet bandwidth and put her MAC address in the MAC filter not allowing her to connect to the router any longer....

Hi. It's always a good idea to find out the source of a wireless signal and offer to pay a bit to the wireless router owner. Otherwise your connection is at their whim.

Tell her to make sure that the modem and the computer has a clear route. If anyelectronics are inbetween the two, the signal can be thrown off. Also, a virus check would help too. Sometimes that is a problem.

They turned it off or made it private.
She was stealing someone else's signal.
Weather conditions effect it as well.
Tell her to quit being a freeloader and get her own internet. Plus, you run the risk of someone on the other end actually being smart. If they are smart they can save all her passwords, even her CC number.

Because someone got smart and got their's fixed. It is a security problem when someone can use your signal. Why should she use something she isn't paying for? Same thing as stealing cable.
