Because no one wants to face reality. We all want to act like everything is all fine and dandy. I guess it hurts less to act like there is no war and have to realize the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Thousands of people are dying everyday and there is nothing we can do to stop it.

Who are you defining as "popular media?" Every publication I have ever read or listened to talks about it far more than I want to hear!
I'd like to find a form of media that acknowledges we are are shell-shocked just from hearing about so much violence, and tells the stories of deeper importance within our borders that need to be discussed and followed to the end of the story. I'm tired of headlines without continued follow-up on every story except the war.

Because there is no money in it. It's not an upbeat topic...Remember in the old days when movie houses or theaters started to make money because people needed a distraction from life (the Depression or war). I guarantee that if they were showing movies of war, or poverty, no one would have gone.
