Plenty of Bush-bashing here, I see.

Not to come to his rescue, but I do recall seeing our flags burned on the news, growing up in the '80s. We've been called "The Great Satan" in the Middle East since the Carter administration, and the former Soviet Union and Communist China have spent over fifty years inundating their populi with anti-American propaganda. Tell me that's G.W.'s fault.

The biggest pill to swallow, for me, is the anti-American sentiment I see on these boards posted by fellow Americans. That is a shame. I don't care if you hate George W. Bush (and I know that many of you do), or fear Hilary Clinton (and there are plenty of us out there); we should all take pride in our own country, love it, and honor the sacrifices of those who have made it what it is. If you disagree with policy; fine, do something about it besides spouting anti-American gibberish and feeling guilty about having comfort and opportunities.

Oh, and here's another fact: the United States of America spends more money on international humanitarian aid than any other nation in the world. How does this equate to a crappy foreign policy?

Good Question.
Could be the media.
Could be people.
Could be just how things are.
If people just respected other cultures and values, then the world would be worry free! Of course that's a feat bigger than finding a needle in a haystack 60 miles high.
The United States is a good place to live because it's safe...safer than most countries to live in. People try to get in because its a chance for a better life. But better lives could only be achieve when one works for them. I wish people would stop caring what country someone is from. Does it matter? Just because you're from one place does not define who you are. If you respect the PEOPLE of the United States, and the PEOPLE of other countries, then whats it matter? At least you have some care for this world, and you don't care if people think bad about your country because you know it's not true. So why is the United States not respected in many parts of the world? I have no idea, guess there are idiots everywhere. 8P

Remember it's not the government that makes up the country, it's the people. It's just that governments represent countries so judgement is based on that. Also people will listen to what their own countries government thinks too. It's hard to put what I'm trying to say in words. I guess to put it simple people may not like a country because they base their arguement on what they have heard and thus begin to dislike the people of the country seeing they must be identical to those of the goverment or of one person's actions. They don't give the benefit of the doubt; they simply just hate. And hate causes violence. We live in a tough and sad world. But only those who can respect themselves and the people they share this world with, will countries respect countries.

The US is not respected in many parts of the world because the Bush Administration tends to be abrasive when it comes to foreign policy and tends to act against the wishes of the rest of the world. We withdrew from Kyoto while every other country except for Australia is participating, we invaded Iraq when most of the other countries asked us not to, not to mention the fact that Bush, the so-called "Leader of the Free World," cannot even find half of the other countries on a map. I think our rejection of soccer and the metric system might piss them off as well.

No one argues about America being the land of opportunity, there is just some disagreement with the way we deal with the rest of the world.

people dislike the united states because of the recent choices it has made. yes people want to live there because of the level of freedom in the country, but you don't find people living in other free countries illegaly entering the states that often.

i'm an american, living in europe, no desire to move back, don't like certain things that go on in the states, go back every summer/winter and am 15 years old

Because many parts of the world have despotic governments, or communist ones, or fascist ones. Popularity doesn't determine what is right, and I'd rather live in a free but unpopular society than a popular one that shoots women in soccer stadiums like the taliban used to do.

Because they look at the bad stuff we did instead of the good stuff we done. But some I think why most Anti Americans are Anti American is because we have a alliance with another Nation. Take Indonesia for example. There Anti Australian. A lot off the Anti Australians are Anti American is because were Allied with them.

Not correct. Only poor and starving country residents are dying to enter the US. The majority of others are quite content where they are.
