I am given to limiting my answer to only movies I have seen on the big screen. It's too much of a bottleneck or roadblock for me to choose a single movie. I can however identify the single most saddening touch from a scene I've experienced: when Idella dies and the peas she's shucking pour across the floor in "Driving Miss Daisy" ...so if by default of some mereologically forced conclusion my choice is DMD, then so be it :( % :)

COCOON
I have only cried while watching two movies in my entire life, and this was one. I didn't just cry, I was bawling, and trust me that never happens. Some of the other ones mentioned are sad, but this one is the saddest. Plus it is a good movie.

OK, I'm the 58th person to answer this, and although I did read all answers and rate them, I wonder if most people read this far down....(hey I just found my next question!)
ok, I like someone above, can't just give you one. There are two that come to mind that make me cry large quantities of tears. First pick
Sophies Choice, with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline. OMG....tears just thinking of it.
Second pick, is an oldie called Imitation of Life.
both definitely worth watching, and definitely keep the tissues handy. dangit....I gotta throw Schindlers List in there too. K, going now before I think of more!

1. Fallen starring Danzel Washington I'm not sure how many people have heard or actually seen this movie but it's 1 of my personal favourite. A cop finds himself confronting a serial killer that never die. LITERALLY. What he initially thought to be a series of copycat killings turned his world upside down as an evil spirit changes identity simply through touch. My favourite scene has got to be the one when Denzal Washington was chasing after this "serial killer" in the crowd. You blink your eye, the killer takes another human form. Superb acting, surprising twist, watch it. 2. Shutter (Thai Horror Show) This is Asian Horror at its best. I'm a horror fan and this rates NUMBER 1 in my chart. Unbeatable. Ever caught something weird on camera? A couple were involved in a hit and run accident when they accidently knocked down a girl in the middle of the night. Guilt and conscious got to them when the hauntings started, thinking that they killed the girl..but little did they know the real story behind it... Horrifying scenes, good storyline, excellent twist with a good-looking male lead to boot. 3. Mystic River directed by Clint Eastwood I watched this movie without much of an expectation. But it blew me away, it was powerful emotionally. Tim Robbin starred as Dave, who was kidnapped and sexually abused by pedophiles when he was a kid. Years later, Dave became the prime suspect when Sean Penn's teenage daughter was found murdered in the hometown. Throw Sean Penn, Tim Robbin and Kevin Bacon together and outcomes Mystic River. Excellent acting and will send shivers down your arms. 4. Primal Fear starring Richard Gere & Edward Norton My favourite Courtroom thriller so far. Story tells of Richard Gere who defends an Altar Boy (played by Norton) who was charged with the murder of a Catholic Archbishop. Things get complicated when dirty secrets of the late archbishop was discovered and Richard Gere found out his client is actually a schizophrenic. This was Edward Norton's grand debut and it showcased his acting ability flawlessly. Impressive acting from Gere as well, the twist in the end rounded the movie nicely.

"Flowers in the Attic" (1987)
In this film adaptation of author V.C. Andrews' bestselling novel, dreams of an inheritance turn into a nightmare for four innocent children left fatherless by a tragic accident. Locked in the deserted north wing of the family mansion by a cruel grandmothe (Fletcher), their only hope lies in survival and escape - but a horrible truth awaits them in the main house. This novel was the one that launched the phenomenal career of author Andrews.

Big Fish-oneof Tim Burtons best. Its about a guy whose father is dying and all his life he had been told tales of his fathers life that just seemed to be fantasy. It isnt until the last scene that you saw that his father was telling the truth, somewhat. Its a really beautiful movie. Watch it and keep a box of tissues nearby.
