Find the probability of both events.

A) One card is selected from a deck of cards. find the probability of selecting a club or a card less than 3. ( note: the ace is considered a low card.)

B) A card from a well shuffled deck deck of 52 cards is a face card or a 6.

In each one, count the number of "positive" outcomes and divide by 52.

A) 4 2's....4 Aces....11 clubs (3 thru K of clubs)
19 "positive" outcomes

Probability = 19/52 = 0.365

B) face cards are kings, queens, jacks....so count up all the "positive" outcomes in this problem and divide by 52.
You should get: 0.308 for the probability.

A) You need to know some things first.

Card deck = 52 cards
Number of each suit = 13

Probabily of selecting a club = number of each suit / total number of cards = 13/52 = 1/4

Cards less than 3 = Ace and 2
One Ace and one 2 per suit = 26 Ace's and 2's in deck = 26/52 = 1/2

B) Here's some info.

No. face cards per deck = 12 (4 Jacks, 4 Queens, 4 Kings)
No. of any number card = 4 (1 six per suit, 4 suits)

Face cards out of whole deck = 12/52 = 6/26 = 3/13
Sixes out of whole deck = 4/52 = 2/26 = 1/13

Probability is the number of successes divided by the total number of possible events.

A)
There are 13 clubs. Other than the club's, there are 3x2 = 6 other cards less than 3. So there are 19 possible successes.
So the probability is 19/52.

B)
There are three face cards of each suit, so 3x4=12 face cards available. There are four 6's available. So there are 16 possible successes. So the probability = 16/52 = 4/13. If you think about it, that makes sense, because for each of the four suits you are allowing a face card or a 6, so four cards possible in each 13-card suit.

A. You have 52 picks. How many are in your set of ace and duece. Answer 8. How many are in your set of clubs. Answer 13. How many are in the intersection. Answer 2. Your answer:
(8+13-2)/52= 19/52
B. Your set is jacks, queens, kings and 6s. How many are in your set. Answer 16. your answer:
16/52= 4/13
