If your going to make a franchise, you should try sticking to young players that'll be playing for a while. The main thing is that you build a winning team. Doesn't have to be Superbowl caliber, since anyone with a winning team has a chance to win. Besides, whats the point of a franchise if you can't keep winning after the first couple years when your veterans take off.

1. Matt Leinart - Probably the smartest young QB in the league. His arms underrated and he's more than capable of evading the rush when he needs to.
2. Reggie Bush - Exciting player that'll pack the stands just by being on the field. If you can't generate any income for your franchise, you'll never get anywhere in the long run.
3. Calvin Johnson - He is a beast coming out of the draft. Great potential, should be a great reciever.
4. Julius Peppers - He's still fairly young and who I think is the best defensive player in the league right now. Total beast with still a lot of untapped potential left.
5. DeMeco Ryans - Lead the league in solo tackles as a rookie, there is no way people can ignore that. Sure he was on the Texans but its still quite a feat doing it as a rookie.

Tom Brady - The general of my team. Has experience and leadership skills which are hard to match. Thought about Peyton Manning but Brady is a little younger.

Ladanian Tomlinson - Do I even need to explain? Probably the most explosive player in the NFL today.

Anquan Boldin - Probably one of the most unselfish WR's in the game. Has speed, power and great hands. If he played on a team with a consistent good QB he would be one of the top recievers year after year. Maybe Leinart can make that happen.

Shawne Merriman - Even though I hate his attitude I couldn't pass up his productivity. He is just a dominant linebacker and is a sack machine.

Sean Taylor - I considered picking up a CB here like Asante Samuel but I am beginning to believe the safety position has a greater impact than CB's (take the difference Bob Sanders had on the Colts defense as an example). Taylor, like Merriman, has a bit of an attitude but he is a tackling machine who can make interceptions like a CB. He is still young and will get even better over the next year or two.

1. Walter Jones-got to protect the QB

2. Carson Palmer- makes all the throws and can understand and run a pretty good offense; also he's only 27 so he still has some years left in him

3. Michael Turner-makes the tough runs inside the tackles and outside on the edges; has spent the past 2-3 years behind Tomlinson to learn but also doesn't have the wear and tear that Johnson, Tomlinson, etc. have

4. Troy Polamalu- QB on defense; still young enough to be athletic, but understands the game enough to lead the defense

5. DeMarcus Ware-pass rush specialist that can do so much more, play OLB, cover TE's, get in the passing lanes with his massive hands

first i would get a quarterback like tom brady. he has the most heart in the league and he is still pretty young. he can find anyway possible to win a nfl game. he even does it without star recievers(coughpeytoncough).

second i would get a great offensive lineman. most ppl wouldnt take a O-lineman but i would. to tell the truth, offensive lineman are the most important positions in the nfl. if you dont have a good o-line, your pretty much beat because a deffense will eat them alive and take your quarterback/runningback down every play.

third i would get a reciever like chad johnson. chad has everything you need ot be a productive wide out. he has speed, some height, and hands and he puts up invredible numbers. he is a player who is perfect to build your franchise around.

4th i would get an incredible pass rushing deffensive end like julius peppers. peppers is the best pass rushing DE in the league in my opinion. his speed is abnormal for defensive ends. and he can rip and spin off offensive lineman like its the easiest thing.

and finally i would get a shutdown cornerback like champ baily. champ can shutdown any reciever better then any other deffensive back. his speed and deffensive awarness outmatch other cornerbacks.

i like the idea you have calvin johnson as your wide out. i would pick him too but i dont really trust rookie recievers only because it is rare to have a wide reciever have there breakout year the rookie year. but the good thing about getting calvin johnson is that he is, of course young, and its always great to build your team around players who have about 15 years left in them. and a guy like vince young as your quarterback could work with calvin so they could become great young players together. not bad choices there. especially with jason taylor, the deffensive mvp.

1. Peyton Manning. He's the greatest, literally, and he has several more years on top.

2. Jay Cutler - I focus on a pass oriented team, and Cutler is the best passer from that draft.

3. Reggie Wayne - He is a beast, many years left.

4. Ty Law - Also a beast, he will pick you any shot he gets. No one passes to his side thought, and that's just the reason, he gets his interceptions. Great coverage, speed, vision, transition.

5. Corey Simon. This guy is a top defensive tackle. He is huge so he can close a gap, but he's wicked fast. He has plenty more years left to play. It if wasn't for Booger McFarland's age, I'd take him because he's one of the quickest DTs in the league.

These guys have PLENTY of years left, meaning you will have them for a long time. These are the guys you want to teach the rest of the team, meaning they will develop to be the greatest. Owning the NFL year after year.
