x-4 = 3/2
x= 3/2+ 4
x=11/2
x=5.5

I suspect you mean (X – 4)^2 = 3. If that is the case then
X – 4 = ± √3
x = 4 - √3, 4 + √3

2x-8=3
2x-8+8=3+8 adding 8 to both sides
2x=11 divide both sides by 2
x=5.5

mutiply 2 by (x-4) to get 2x - 8 = 3

add 8 to both sides to get 2x = 11

divide both sids by 2 to get

x = 11/2
