This is a Weber DFAV progressive carburetor--whenever I rebuild it I usually end up with too much fast idle for weather conditions but I don't know what adjustment is responsible. It does eventually unload so I don't think it is a vacuum leak. The fast idle speed is okay if it were needed. If possible I would like to fix it without removing from engine since every time needs a new gasket and not available locally. Anyone familiar with this carb?

there is an adjustment...on the electric choke...loosen the screws and turn the thermo in a direction which takes tension off of the choke...this should do it for you

i own a repair shop and this is a pretty easy carburetor to work on ,especially with the electric choke ,first verify that the choke is heating up an kicking off,and you can set the choke plate to a lower setting so that it will unload a lot faster on it,you can also run the fast idle screw down a little but not too much because it may try to flood on you before it kicks off,but you can get the idle speed down a lot on it,once you do this though you,ll need to re-set everything, because it will throw it off a little, but you can get it to come down a lot .without it loading up also check and make sure you have the proper float level in it,i seem to have a problem sometimes getting the float level set in those but there good carburetors if you can ever get them set right usually you can set them and leave them alone for a long time, but try changing the time the choke stays on by either loosening the housing unit and easing it off a little or bending the rod a little ,once you get it right it should be ok for a long time ,good luck i hope this helps.

is the electric choke round black thing pop riveted to the carb or screwed? loosen the screws then you can turn the choke housing black thing and watch the choke close or open. Mark the posistion before moving the round black housing. bimetal spring is heated by 12 volts and the choke is opened you will want to adjust this carb when cold. Less shut in summer and more shut in winter. That carb was standard on Fiats, Lancias and was used as replacements on Datsuns and BMW'S. If pop riveted you can drill out the rivets. Then replace the rivets with small screws just keep the three little keepers that hold the round thing down

you could put in a manual choke of some sort. I would. But look along side of the carb both sides to find a set screw for your fast idle, it could be under the throttle.

You can't change how fast the heater in the choke warms up, but you can turn the whole thing so it doesn't have to heat up as long to let off the choke.
