We have some smoke damage (from a fire) to an apartment, and would like to use an ozone generator to remove the smoke smell. Will the use of the ozone generator in a room with a fishtank do any damage to the fish?

From my understanding of ozone generators, they create O3- will this "pollute" the water in the fishtank? Or create an unsafe environment for the fish?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

The generator should be OK with the fish tank,a few years back there were filters with primitive Ozone generators in them,(they didn't work too well) that didn't harm the fish.Sorry about the smoke damage.------Good luck.------PeeTee

I think ozone doesn't make any pollution for your fish tank water. Ozone generator is also used to purify water and air. So it is safe for water so far.

No it will not harm the fish. O3 is activated oxygen or better known as allotropic oxygen. This is also is created naturally during a thunderstorm.

Many fish hatcheries use O3. It will be fine.

It will pose no problem at all Ozone breaks down rather quickly and even more so in water. Normal usage levels will not create enough to harm the tank in any way.

Ozone generators are actually used IN aquariums. AquaZone makes on to be used in conjunction with protein skimmers for saltwater aquariums.

I had one running constantly right by my tank and betta bowls and it didn't harm the fish. So I would say no it doesn't harm the fish.

Well, your ozone generator will pump out some nice environmental toxins as well. I don't know about the fish, but it does damage the atmosphere.

Not only is it ok, but it is extremely beneficial. Your fish tank will have more dissolved oxygen in there
