Sheesh, guess George didn't even have to say he was in the business since that answer has collector prints all over it.

Yes there is a SOL for collections in all states.
The collecting SOL does not start over whenever the account is sold, or if the collector sends a notice, no matter what state a person lives in.

In WI the SOL is 6 years.

893.43 Action on contract.

An action upon any contract, obligation or liability, express or implied, including an action to recover fees for professional services, except those mentioned in s. 893.40, shall be commenced within 6 years after the cause of action accrues or be barred.

If you are past the collecting SOL it would be illegal for them to file a law suit.

There isn't any statute of limitations on credit cards, as long as the keep it active by posting notices to you, or send you to small claims court. Each state has a maximum of how much can be claimed from you. They can claim just what they want to and then continue with another claim on what you still owe them for that period. If you are working, the will attach your pay check and so much will be subtracted from it until paid in full. Don't let this happen. You will lose your credit worth and will not be able to purchase anything else again and your name will be on every credit companies record. A few things can be purchased, but very little. You should talk to the and see if you can work something out. If they never hear from you, they really get pissed off and it will hurt you.
Good luck,
George
