They feel better about their lives knowing that the ferrari owner's life is not all perfect.
I owned a Ferrari and it was wonderful when it ran. But there were so many times when something was wrong, or sometimes there was nothing wrong, but it would refuse to start. I must have made a lot of people feel better

they get excited because they see the problems that the ferrari driver has, and it makes them think "hah, my ford escort is running fine but that 200,000 dollar ferrari is having a breakdown!". They wont be so excited when theyre pulling 100 mph and the ferrari is slamming 200...

cause they know that my damm mechanic can't fix a yugo much less a ferrari. i hate calling cabs from the highway, thats it i'm taking the rolls next time!!!!

Probably because they're jealous and love to see wealthy people have problems. I've never really understood it. But that's how some people are.
