The earth will be burnt up when the sun expands into a red giant to around the orbit of Mars in around 5 billion years or so. The thinking of cosmologists now is that instead of a big crunch following the big bang that the universe might expand forever while growing darker as stars burn out or fall into black holes. But don't despair. There are people who think that a human/machine hybrid will be the next step in the evolution of mankind and that they will learn how to control the cosmos so the universe would never die. Isn't science and speculation about the future wonderful?

I don't speculate on a particular philosophy or man made theory or myth about the end of the world. I believe the truth the Bible teaches about the subject. God created this earth (and universe) and He knows the beginning and the end. Nice thing is the universe will not end; everything will be "recreated" or made new. Just think of how beautiful the universe is now so His new heavens and earth will be a sight to see! Blessings to you...

The world itself will not end. This planet will probably still be here for millions of years, it's kinda irrelevant. What is going to end is civilization. Humans are causing their own demise. There is too many people on this planet, the problem is oil dependency. People have become so accustomed to convenience and luxury it is going to kill them. People don't realize how much oil is involved in every day life. processed foods, transportation of goods/people, heating houses in cold climates. where are we going to be without these things. I'm not saying it will be impossible to survive, but it sure will be different. people are sadly disillusioned. like when people say 'this is global warming?' they don't realize it should be called 'climate extremes'. when the ice caps melt, will the citizens of earth learn to swim?

I am a practicing Evangelical Christian and have been for 57 years (I am now 65). My view of "the end" of the world has changed very little in that time.

First of all it will come unexpectedly. No one will have a clue. It will come "as a thief in the night". I do not worry about how it will happen. My main concern is that I and my family are prepared for when the end does come it will be too late to prepare.

This probably is not what you were expecting. I am not a religious nut. My wife and I and our daughter have considerable formal education.

Someday millions of years from now the sun will supernova and we'll all be gone in a kind instant.

God will still exist. We won't

But, by then we should have the wisdom; and, the knowledge to move to another solar system.

Global warming is the problem now ... the beginning of the end !? ... stop worrying. Just fight global warming.

The world won't end in your lifetime or mine. Nice to meet you.

Yours truly,
Jonnie

kinda like the black plague...only a million times worse.
think about it...its the only thing that people can't predict. really, i mean people had no clue the avian flu or whatever was coming back, but like we can chart asteroid's courses and i don't think the apocalypse would be predicted like that.
and it won't be the end of the world but the end of the world as we know it and the beginning of a new era

By tales from many scientists and supporters of god, they say our death date is in 2012. The apocolypse shall begin, so to say. But also, in the past, people said that 6.6.6 was the apocolyse also, and that was recently and no major castrophies were started. But my opion of the worldwide death has come down to one basic answer, People. We will all kill ourselves in a wage of war. Nations will attack eachother and blood will be spent. The only things that kill eachother for pure enjoyment is us, humans. And thatsd all i need to know.

This is easy... considering that humans have purely stupidly killed each other in the past just for the heck of it... they will bomb others with their oh-so-exciting nukes... they won't even comprehend their power and destroy themselves at the same time... then the world will either be wiped out slowly or annihilated immediately.

The way I see it, the Earth, as well as the other planets, will spiral into the Sun, unless the Sun goes nova/supernova and destroys the Solar System first.
