Well this was a long long time ago but i know the answer.it was in like the 1800's and most houses back in that day were either just wood. But most fancy houses were white. And since the white house is home to presidents they wanted to make it fancy so they painted it white.

After the British tried to burn it down there were so many black streaks on it that they needed to do a white-all-over to get it to look OK again.
