To sanitize a kitchen sponge you need to let it soak for 1 hour in a solution of bleach and water.
The microwave and dishwasher methods are not reliable. Too many variables.

Yes, 2 minutes in the microwave
on high, daily. Or through a dishwasher
cycle. Replace sponge at least once
a month.

Yes... mix water and vinegar> 1 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of H2O.... if you want to have more of it, just make sure you have 4 parts of vinegar to 1 part water.... then soak the kitchen sponge in it for at least 30 minutes.

There are antibacterial sponge solutions you can soak the sponge in. A good one is Fairy's.

NO, throw it away and use something else. I read that even in the bathroom that sponges are only good for bacteria.

you probably did no longer might desire to throw away the plant life or the substrate. rinsing nicely and allowing them to dry might have been adequate. Bleaching rather kills each and every thing too. ich is incredibly worry-unfastened and can ensue while the tank is poisonous throughout the biking era and while the fish go through marvel, like from unexpected differences in water chemistry and temperature
