i own a shop and if this one has the 3.1 v-6 in it try checking the timing chain and gears in it,those things wear out bad and will make it drink gas like its going out of style,i had one of those cars and it should be getting you around 21 or more to the gallon, but mine did this also and after i replaced the chain and gears in it the mileage came way up on it on the open road i got like 24 which i thought was good, but try checking this stuff, and also look at the plugs and wires in it they will make it drink gas also,if its running right it should get you at least 16-18 in the city ,and more on the highway ,good luck with it i hope this helps.

I've had a problem before with a brake caliper hanging on an older vehicle. Most of the suggestions that have been made, including fuel system cleaner and spark plugs are a good idea. I wouldn't change the O2 sensor unless you have a code that indicates it's not working. In fact, I wouldn't ever suggest replacing any hard parts or sensors unless you have verified that the sensor has failed.

Fuel economy is effected mostly by load on the engine. If you have a stuck brake caliper, you will notice two things. A pull in the direction of the stuck caliper, and reduced fuel economy. The design of the parking brake on that model, i believe, is one that is supposed to be "self adjusting". If you set the parking brake it is supposed to adjust the brake to drag slightly when the brake is released. Some times one or more of the calipers won't release when the parking brake isn't released.

As vehicles get older, the brake hoses (the lines that go from the caliper to the hard brake line) get soft. They might not look like it, but internally they might be collapsed. If the caliper is hanging up, it may not be the caliper that's to blame. The brake hose might be collapsed, and not be allowing the hydraulic fluid to return to the master cylinder quickly enough to release the pad from the rotor.

That's kind of poor mileage. Make sure your car has a good tune-up, proper inflation in the tires and avoid jack-rabbit starts and prolonged idling. I think it's more a matter of your driving habits than the car.

If the major portion of your driving is around town, that would account for a somehwat higher than normal rate of consumption; try taking it on the highway, freeway or expressway and check the milegae again. Avoid speeding and try to avoid traffic jams before checking the mileage.

Your car in stock form should be in the 25-30 mpg area. You need a complete tune up. Do you have a check engine light. Have you changed your oxygen sensor.

A tune-up would help alot and fuel injector cleaner. Also make sure your tire pressures are correct. And be sure to change your oil every 3000 miles. Driving at slower speeds also helps. For every 5 mph you drive slower you save one gallon of gas! Thats the standard remedies, if these don't help than you have bigger problems and need to consult a mechanic!

Have it scanned to see if a sensor is reading out of range, the car would have to be running too rich to use this much gas.

The only thing I can say is check your gas tank to make sure it has no leaks. I had a Beretta and i think you are on crack.
