Lager beer, which was first brewed in Germany some 500 years ago, has since become one of the most popular beer styles in the world. The word comes from German and means "to store". Traditionally, the beer is stored in barrels for several weeks or longer before being served. Lager is also a general name that includes several variations, such as Pilsner and Märzen

Ale is a beer style brewed from barley malt with a top-fermenting brewers yeast that ferments quickly, giving a sweet, full body and a fruity, and sometimes a butter-like, taste. Most ale contains some herb or spice, usually hops, which imparts a bitter, herbal flavour which balances the malt sweetness. As an appellative ale means any top-fermented beverage made from malt.

Ales are very common in Britain, Germany, Canada's eastern provinces, Ireland, the United States, and Belgium; however, pale lager is the dominant style of beer in almost all other countries.

Draught beer (also called draft beer or tap beer) has several related though slightly different understandings. The majority of references to draught beer are of filtered beer that has been served from a pressurised container, such as a keg or a widget can. A wider meaning is beer that is served from a keg (or tap), but not from a can, bottle or cask, is also used. A more traditional definition is beer that is served from a large container, which could be either a keg or a cask. The different understandings may at times overlap and cause confusion. Some traditionalists object to the more modern use of the word when applied to canned beer. The slight usage differences of the term is due to the history and development of beer dispensing.

Ah lager vs. Ale...the ultimate battle. The real difference is where the hops sit, either on the bottom or the top of the tank. The two different brewing methods produce two different tasting beers.

Draft is something completely unrelated. If you have a beer off tap, it's a draft. If your drink a beer out of a bottle, it's not draft (but still delicious).

I'm a big lager fan (yuengling) but have been known to dive into the Ale's every once and a while (Sam Adams style).
