Let's see, 6 months would be Sept/Oct. Typically that is football,
cross country & soccer season. High school track in my area
is Dec.-Feb.(indoor) and March-May/June (Spring, outdoor).
That being said: If you're not actively involved in a sport right now, you have plenty of time to prep for track. Give yourself a good base by doing some daily (maybe 5 days/week) jogging.
Perhaps 10-12 miles a week, starting off easy and working
gradually into a longer & faster regimen. Do some light weight workouts, again gradually; injuring yourself will not prove anything. This should give you a good starting base for any track or field event. There are plenty of events in track;
which ones appeal to you? Are you a sprinter? This is easy to figure out. If in gym class or on the playground you can catch or beat most of your classmates, then you may have talent here. Do you want to keep playing when all your friends
are tired; maybe you're a long distance runner in the making.
Are you tall, pretty strong,fast?? All of these? (lucky you!)There's an event just for you on the team. In the fall go out for cross country. Even if you prefer the sprints later on this will help with your endurance. Or play soccer. I noticed that most good soccer players turn into good track runners.
Good luck.

I guess if your track season is in 6 months, your in 8th grade. You should be doing spring track now, but high school track is much harder then middle school. First train hard during the spring season. Maybe, over the summer go to track camps. If your a distance runner maybe try out for cross country in the fall. Other then that, just keep training hard.
