I've seen two of Kubrick's movies, The Shining and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Both were very tiring to watch, both the Shining and Space Odyssey had long, slow scenes which are exceedingly boring

I know that Kubrick is a reputable director, but is he famous for anything else other than the ones listed above?

Kubrick tended to a lyrical visual style, and often let the pictures and music tell the story, without much action or dialog. An important part of many of his films is the way he communicates a sense of time and place. There are indeed several long sequences in 2001 which serve no plot purpose beyond saying "look, we're in space!". I've always quite enjoyed those, probably because I've always wanted to go to space. Also, the look of that film was much more revolutionary when it came out than it seems now, jaded as we are by sophisticated computer graphics.

On the other hand, I once saw someone comment that Barry Lyndon perfectly captured the tedium of country life in 18th century England. He was actually trying to be complimentary, but I just found that movie tedious. Beautiful visuals, impressive technical achievements in cinematography, but not enough story or character to hold my interest. I was impressed, but not moved. Maybe if I'd always wanted to go to 18th century England...

I think in general, Kubrick's movies work best if you just sit back, let the music and visuals wash over you, and don't over-think them. Try some of his films where's the action is more engaging, such as Full Metal Jacket, Spartacus, or Dr. Strangelove.

You'll find most all his movies are drawn out like that. You really have to be in a Kubrick mood to watch Kubrick. I'd say 'Full Metal Jacket' moves along a little faster than his other works but even it's a little sluggish. Stanley was all set to make AI Artificial Intelligence at the time of his death. Since, Steven Spielberg had already been his personal advisor, Steven decided to do Kubrick's script exactly as Kubrick wanted it done (instead of giving it that Spielberg touch). That's why AI Artificial Intelligence is so long and drawn out and exceedingly boring. But it's in honor of Kubrick.

Lolita
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut
Full Metal Jacket
Dr. Strangelove...Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb
Spartacus

to name a few....he was a visionary writer/director and he had a nack for taking his time to set up a shot and make people think, instead of bombarding them with constant action.
