I'm first generation American (german parents). My husband is Berber from North Africa. He has his heart set on naming our child Takfarinas (if a boy) or Melika (if a girl). I wanted to know if anyone knows any other baby names of this heritage that I can suggest for possible middle name? But what can possibly go with Takfarinas (a name I don't particularly like)?? ...serious answers only, ok? Sheesh.

Takfarinas is hideous. Please do not allow your husband to do that to your child. Melika isn't too bad. Look for more names here:

I think Melika isn't such a bad name for a little girl! As for the boys name I don't agree on! There are baby name sites out there that can help!

Just type in African baby names in the tool bar and the possibilities are endless!

GOOD LUCK!!

i'm sorry, i couldn't find any african boy names. i agree with the other posters that melika is a pretty girls' name, though. one suggestion that nobody else has offered: if you really can't stand takfarinas as a first name, offer to use it as a middle name, paired with either an american or african name that you both like.
don't just go off and name your child something random without consulting your husband- it's important that you both love his or her name, because you'll be calling him or her that for the rest of your lives!

To HELL with the lot of you. Just because YOU can't pronounce it dosn't mean that will be the way for all people. I agree with the person who said that put it as a middle name.

My husband is Hispanic and I really wanted to name our son Jacob, but the way it is spelled it would get pronounced Hakub by his family and I didn't want that so I changed the spelling to Jeikub. In the US people would get it and his family got it too.

If you want your husband to have ssome real resentment issues then go ahead and tell him that you are having the baby so it is your desision. He helped in this and it should be decided together.

Here is a site that you can find all different names from all different regions.

First off who is having the baby you or him. Why shouldn't you be "allowed" to name the baby a German or American name? The boy name really totally sucks and no one will be able to pronounce it. The girl name is OK. When I had my child the dad wanted to name it after him if it was a boy (William) I said no way I am not naming the baby after you because the Jr crap gets on my nerves. When your husband has a baby then he can name it, it should be either a name you both agree on and it not it would be one I picked myself and if he wants to nickname it that crappy name let him call the baby that on his own time.
