I've read that lemon mint, also called horsement, is the plant from which citronella is derived. It is an annual. It supposedly deters mesquitoes. The botanical name is 'Monarda citriodora.'

A lot of aromatic herbs are good for repelling a lot of bugs. Fennel, mints, and tansy are good examples.
More importantly, you'll want to be sure you don't have any standing water (such as in pets' water bowls, garbage cans, or old tires) near your home.

any kind of plant, just spray the ground with lemon juice, the acidity and sour taste keeps them away, and kills any that are dumb enough to stay around.
