Hi I took the MSF and I just got a Ninja 250 and it seems like I can only go up to about 3000-4000 rpm in first gear before it just revs and it doesnt seem like I am picking up speed from the increase engine speed and it is time to shift to 2nd gear already at that rpm.
The bikes in MSF class werent like that, why do I have to shift so soon to 2nd gear at 3000-4000 rpm? Seems like I am not even out of an intersection yet and i am still turning in a 90 degree turn and I already have to shift to second gear, maybe 7-10mph.
Thanks

Ok thanks for the answers, it just doesnt even sound like the motor can go up to 8000rpm. Everyone on ninja250 sites are saying to shift between 6000-8000 rpm well in 2nd and 3rd gear it sounds like the engine is going to explode if i was to take it up that high. I dont get it

It's plenty normal dude. Rev it up! Your redline is 13,000 RPM. Your peak HP is 12,000. It's bulletproof. You won't blow it up by takin' it to redline. At 3-4,000 RPM it's only producing about 1/5 of it's HP. Scream it! Have fun. It's made for that!

i'm your length, and that i think of the 250 is in simple terms too small an engine. you will probable get tired of the bike too quickly for loss of means. The actual length of the bike may well be too small, additionally. have you ever sat on or ridden a 250 Ninja? Does it greater healthful you? those are substantial issues to contemplate. circulate with the 5 hundred. it ought to have a superb form of means to maintain you amused. I even have ridden motorcycles for 2 many years. My first bike develop into an 'eighty one Kawasaki one thousand. It develop into too massive for a frequently used bike, and that i purely weighed a hundred forty five lbs on the time(bigger now). It develop into way speedy, too lots for a clean rider. on no account crashed it, nonetheless!

250s are geared low enough to use just about all their revs in top gear, and to accelerate. They arnt putting alot of HP down so you need to rev em up, dont worry it can take it. The msf bikes are low revving low HP cruiser/standard types the ninja 250 was built to spin fast. I doubt those 250 rebels and such will do 70mph, your ninja will do 100.

one tip not mentioned: For once, just try keeping it in first or second and wind it out to redline. Your bike has a rev limiter which will actually prevent you from going past redline. Once you hit the limiter a few times, you'll know by feel/sound what that point is, and you'll feel more comfortable revving your bike up to higher rpms.

What you are describing is normal. Those 250s are high revvers. You'll get used to it after a while.
The engine won't explode.

It's a bike, not a tractor. It's supposed to scream. It should be able to redline in first gear easily.

!st gear is really low on all bikes. After you ride for awhile you won't even think about it. It will become almost a natural thing and you'll be fine. Good Luck and have fun.
