I go one better...I carry the alcohol gel hand sanitizers in my purse. I put some of that on clean toilet paper and SCRUB the toilet seat before I sit down. THEN I put down toilet paper to sit on.

And most women of my acquaintance do the same thing. Whatever happened to the disposable covers that some washrooms carried about 10 years ago? They were wonderful!

As to all handles...I use a tissue from my purse from the time that I enter a public restroom to when I leave. I don't need some other persons germs from those either.

The same goes for the handles of the faucets if they don't have hands free ones.

And then when I am out of the restroom and walking away, I use some of that hand sanitizer on my hands and scrub it in well between the fingers to make sure that all possible germs left behind are dead.

Funny question .. Didn't think I would be reading it here :)
I am sure there are plenty of nasties that you can get from a public toilet seat.. yeah, I do the paper barrier on the seat thing.. no way is my bare skin touching that seat!
But, the bathrooms that really scare me are the gas station ones that are not on major highways.. I doubt some of them even get cleaned once a week.. for those, I put my hands under my thighs and kinda sit on them, palms-up.. so that no part of me is even close to the seat other than the back of my hands .. then give my hands a good washing. I would much rather be safe than sorry.

As a college student, I am literally infuriated with the sense of respect on using the toilet seat. If girls are afraid to sit on the toilet seat, they can lift the seat up and squat n' do their biz...This way, no one has to sit on a messy left behind by someone else, wastes our time to clean or put toilet paper on the seat.

There a lot of people not wanting to pick up a certain 'virus' or the better term, 'germs'...

I am clean freak and like things clean in a bathroom anywhere. If it's dirty and no luck with toilet paper around, I ain't sittin on it!

I personally don't but there are dispensers in some public toilets that allow you to place a clean paper barrier on the toilet seat.

I'm not a doctor so I don't know for certain but I would imagine that some viruses could be contracted but I don't think AIDS would apply there. AIDS doesn't last long out in the open. So unless you have an open sore on your buttocks I wouldn't worry about contracting that particular virus.

Some people that I've talked to say that you can't catch anything because your private parts are not touching the seat but I don't believe them. That's why I also carry hand sanitizer and toilet seat covers ( you can find them at your local drug store) in my bag when I know I'm going to be out awhile. If for some reason I forget them I do use the toilet paper.

Unless it looks rather questionable, I don't normally line the seat. If, however, thye have the disposable seat covers already there, I will use those (I think it's Atlanta's airport that actually has the automatic ones). One thing I will do is avoid flushing by hand (use my foot instead, although I did have a friend end up with her foot in the toilet), but so many places have that automatic that it's usually not necessary. I also have friends that do the 'squat' - which usually ends up with piss running down their legs. It's very unlikely you'll actually catch something from the seat though.

If the bathroom or toilet don't look completely sanitary.
Yes I put toilet paper down. But most of the rest rooms
I don't. Sometimes I just don't sit on the seat.

I get paper from the roll, put soapy hot water on it and SCRUB THAT SEAT CLEAN.
There ARE bacteria on it left from the previous users and maybe even some crab lice.

So, People beware.
