I was planning out going out with a girlfriend tonight. I was very excited cause I have not seen her in a long time. Anyway, she just informed me she is not able to come visit. I was upset at the prospect of spending another saturday night at home. Then, my thoughts immediately turned to chocolate ice cream with raspberries on top. The idea already makes me happy. And, I already find myself doing a little dance when I eat chocolate. Just wondering.....It makes me happy, anyway!

yes it really does check this out:

Pleasure of consuming

Melted ChocolatePart of the pleasure of eating chocolate is due to the fact that its melting point is slightly below human body temperature: it melts in the mouth. Chocolate intake has been linked with release of serotonin in the brain, which is thought to produce feelings of pleasure..[10] Research has shown, that heroin addicts tend to have an increased liking for chocolate; this may be because it triggers dopamine release in the brain's reinforcement systems[11] — an effect, albeit a legal one, similar to that of opiates.

Yes, chocolate contains chemicals that help release endorphins in your brain. Endorphins are chemical substances in the nervous system that are similar in structure and action to opiates and are involved in pain control, pleasure, and memory (thus explaining happiness). Chocolate is also a stimulant. Because it contains not only caffeine but also another stimulant, theobromine. Work done in the 1980s suggested that chocolate contained a number of other compounds that are chemically similar to some components in amphetamines. This means that when we focus on only the caffeine content of chocolate, we are actually underestimating its stimulant value. And all the caffeine and other stimulants can also help to explain the energetic feeling expressed by eating chocolate.

I wish I had a big tub of chocolate ice cream( or any ice cream) right now! As a single woman who lives with her 2 cool, hip nephews, I get depressed alot. I eat when I get depressed sometimes I just really PIG out. Yes food makes me very, very happy...especially fatty foods like potato salad,
chili dogs, poultine, gelato, I can go on and on.

Absolutely! Chocolate is so choc full of good things for us and powerful neurochemicals that it really is the food of the gods! The best metaphor I can think of for chocolate is catnip to cats! It produces a slight euphoria, but has no real negative effects on us. However, I do need to remind you that it is the dark chocolate that has the good stuff in it and that it should still be consumed in moderation! Almost all chocolate is high in fat! Enjoy!

I think chocolate really can make you happy. I think I read somewhere that there's some kind of chemical in it that does something to your brain. I know it makes me feel much better!

Yeah! I guess it does to some people but not me. It contains stimulants that actually simulate happiness but it's not good for your teeth. Have a wonderful night.
