Depending on your day of arrival casino hotels are typically cheaper than non-casino. It's Las Vegas .. they want to lure you into the casinos.

If it's any of your groups first trip to Las Vegas, you should definitely stay on the strip ... everyone should experience that. Try Monte Carlo, Luxor, or Excalibur for the best rates.

For the hotels you mentioned ... scale 1 bad 10 great

Residence Inn 10
Courtyard 9
Candlewood 8
Emerald Suites 3

i'll re-iterate some of the other arguements on here about where to stay: even though you're not gamblers you may want to stay at a casino hotel. all the attractions are on the strip and most non-casino hotels are not. meaning you'll have to walk, take a cab, or pay for a shuttle to get there. that may not be a problem but it is an extra expense to keep in mind.
i did a search on lasvegas.com. i just guessed your dates. i chose the weekend so you could get the high end of the scale. mid-week stays are cheaper of course. candlewood, courtyard and residence are nice small hotels. i used to live right down the street from all 3. (i'm assuming you're talking about the ones on paradise). it's about a 10-20 minutes walk from the strip. there's also bus lines you can take. the neighborhood is good and there's some very nice resteraunts within a 5 minute walk. they are also close to the convetion center which can be problematic if there's a major convetion in town. traffic can be a nightmare in that area. the emerald suites is ok too. it's far south on the strip and you would have to drive to get onto the central strip.
your choices are all decent, nice places. but keep in mind what you want to do (shows, attractions, etc.) and what it'll cost to get there if you're not on the strip.
good luck and have a great trip!

It's not necessarily better to stay at a hotel that does not have a casino, but it's an option.

A very nice hotel only 2 blocks East of the strip on Flamingo is the Platinum Hotel. Their smallest suite has over 900sq ft and has a full kitchen and separate bedroom.

I will give you a couple of four star hotels that "generally" have the best rates. Your rate of $150 per night is doable if you're planning to go Sunday through Thursday, weekends will be much tougher.

Luxor
http://www.luxor.com
They have a promotion going until the end of June, online PC "PGET20" phone PC "PDGET20"

Golden Nugget

Hit "Special Promotions"

Las Vegas Hilton

Check their promotions, they have a couple of good ones going.

one of our favorites is the Orleans

This one is a three star hotel.

I can't help you with the non-gaming hotels. We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. We have never stayed in a non gaming hotel in Las Vegas.

I would recommend staying at a hotel that has gambling even if none of your family would use thier casino area since the casino hotels tend to have the best locations and the best amenities. I would highly recommend getting a hotel on the strip for convenience purposes. You can often get good rates by booking hotel and airfare together which always puts you in a hotel with a casino.

Las Vegas is the absolute most interesting and entertaining city on the planet and with hotelbye you will find out more. Nowhere otherwise in the world you will find a city that has all the journey amenities that just a total resort location could offer: magnificent casino hotels, great food, amazing live leisure and state-of-the artwork conference and deal display facilities. Las Vegas is surely a magnificent city and anything that you'd assume from the world-class area, and more, is the following for your vacation pleasure. One of the places you must visit in Las Vegas could be the Fremont Street, a pedestrian region with all kinds of distinctive sites.

There are many websites you can look into for Cheap rates for Las Vegas. Mostly coupons have great discount prices, but it may be costly no matter what. If you know a travel agent, he or she can help you out as well. Other then that, you need to know on which hotel has a good cheap rate. Most of the famous classy hotels can be overpriced.

Even though you do not gamble I would try to stay on the strip especially if its somebodies first trip. The experience is great and you are in the middle of everything. This would make it much easier to check out the other hotels during the day which is a lot of fun. In addition there are plenty of hotels in the price range you mentioned.

Have Fun!

Even though you are not planning to gamble, you might want to go ahead and stay in one of the big hotels that have casinos. The reason is that these hotels usually have better EVERYTHING than the reasonably-priced non-casino hotels: better pools, better spas, better restaurants, better shows, better access to cabs, better walking access to other casinos that also have great restaurants, shows, etc. I recommend the Mirage (fantastic pool, good restaurants, dolphin and tiger tours, volcano, decent spa, and good location).
