...but I have my insecurities and fears. You all have seen how cruel the world of entertainment is with physical appearance and because I have stretch marks am worried of not getting the oportunity to be an actress because of that. I mean, you all see that the women in movies are only getting skinnier and more beautiful but no talent. I believe I have the talent but rejection because of my body can tarnish my chances. I just want to act and make people react with feelings towards my art. What are your thoughts?

There is a short answer to this that should help you decide if you are really heading into the right career....

Think of the ratio of "pretty leading lady" parts to "any other female character" parts. The industry will always need women of all sizes, shapes, looks and styles to compliment the skinny rakish leading ladies who are cast on looks as much as talent.

Some of the most 'moving' performances in TV, film and stage today are given by actors playing truly multi-dimensional characters and often these parts don't need (or want) the model look.

Look at actress like Kathy Bates (Misery , Six Feet under)and Toni Collette (Muriel's Wedding, Sixth Sense) - I am sure they have all sorts of marks that give them insecurities but their talent shines through from their soul when they are in character.

As long as you are not hoping to go into the business to only play the pretty leading lady in every production you should have nothing to worry about as long as you have talent.

Acting isn't about how you look - that only affects which parts you play. And, in short, there are far more parts out there for 'unique' looking actresses than 'pretty leading ladies'.

Best of luck - all us actors have hang ups which we feel could spoil our chances but, at the end of the day, it really does all come down to giving a great audition and blowing the casting directors away with your talent.

Finish your course and go knock 'em dead!!

Don't let your stretch marks hold you back from pursuing your dream. You may want to focus your career in live theatre and learning to do things like voice-over work and commercials (the residual pay is good rent money). Be proud of your accomplishments and use your degree to work one play and/or musical after another. In a few years, if you choose to go into film you may have the money to get the stretch marks removed but you'd be surprised how many people don't really appear nude or barely nude on film (and stage for that matter). A lot is done with makeup these days. Follow your dream and never let it go. Blessings to you...

What does stretch marks have to do with acting. You don't have to be a film actress.

Perhaps you can focus on Broadway. There are many roles for good female actresses. Why would anyone see your stretch marks unless you showed them to someone.

Look at oprah, and the osbournes, and jennifer aniston, and all the other mediocre looking people in hollywood and then think to yourself ''if they can do it, why can't I?'' Seriously, if all those other people that don't look appealing can make a career out of pretending to be other more appealing people, then why can't you? Acting isn't such a big deal, its the fact that people want to be recognized so badly that it makes them dizzy, and when they get a little recognition they go nuts. ''Oh my god, they love me, they really love me....'' sound familiar? Take care of yourself. What is really important to you?
