Probability question, number can be between 0000 and 9999, it's a lottery. I just need to know how to do this, not the answer. :)

The basic formula is:

[number of times you enter] / [number of different possibilities]

To calculate the number of possibilities, take the maximum number, subtract the minimum number, and add 1.

There are 10,000 possible numbers, and just one of them is correct. So the probability is going to be 1 out of 10,000.

You can also calculate the probability because there are 10 possible numbers for each of the four digits.
1/10 chance the first one is matching.
1/10 chance the second one matches, ....

1/10 * 1/10 * 1/10 * 1/10 = ____________

There's a 1/10000 chance to get any of those numbers, so good luck!!! Just pick one!! There's no mathematical secret that says some number is more likely to be randomly selected...

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it would seem to me the probability is one in 10,000.

independant events.
multiply the probability of each number matching correctly.
Prob(1st # right)*Prob(2nd # right)*Prob(3rd # right)*Prob(4th # right)=
10*10*10*10
