My puppy is 13 weeks old and has never been around a cat...but needs a friend. I've found just such a cat that loves dogs...how do I introduce them to make sure my dog doesn't attack the cat? he's a great dog, just always wants to play...??

Just make sure the kitty has an escape route. Sometimes you worry more about a dog savvy cat going after a pup.

A puppy and a cat that likes dogs should do fine together. The cat may correct the puppy's behavior when the pup is naughty, but since you know the cat likes dogs, this should be fine. A cat can easily get away from a dog by jumping to a higher spot. The cat will no doubt allow the dog to chase it sometimes, and they may have play fights (the dog barking and the cat hissing and batting) -- at least mine do these things. They should have a lot of fun.

You didn't mention what breed of dog it is but it shouldn't make any difference since it is just a puppy. About the best way to introduce them to each other is to put them in the same room together some distance apart and they should take it from there. You might want to watch for signs of aggression on the part of each one of them. I've seen some mighty scrappy kittens in my time. But I dont forsee any problems here since you have a cat who is aready dog-friendly. They should grow up together as best friends.

generally most puppies are friendly to cats. however you mustn't force them to be together. each dog will react differently. some are more receptive to cats than others. i would advise you to put them a slight distance away from each other and let them come together on their own. well at least that's what i did and it worked cause i just stood there watching them sniffing at each other and letting them do all the work.

put them in a divided room so that they get used to each others smell. then after 24 hours, let them meet each other (if they havent been growling or hissing).

and let them bond

good luck!
