Hold your horses...

How are you going to stay in the UK? Not a job, not a plane, not a house--but how are you going to get a VISA to live in the UK (assuming you are a US citizen)?

That has to be the first question you answer, before anything else. Once you finalize that, then you can start to look at the benefits (many) and disadvantages (many).

One universal truth amongst expatriates, regardless of the country they come from or the country they are heading to is that it is NEVER like they suspected it would be. The expat messageboards are filled with people in shock because they found X country not like they imagined or how they wished to be back home and not on the other side of the planet.

I'd recomend this site to get a start on your plans: US expats living in the UK

There you will find hundreds of others Americans who have made the trip, and you can read about their successes and disappointments (they have a whole section on homesickness).

If you are serious about living as an expat, a) sort out the visa and b) sort out, with a clear head, what living as an expat is like.

I moved to UK and stayed there for 20 years. I love it there, especially London, which is the capital of the world.

Its not elementary to get a Visa, yet once you have pastime skills that are actually not very worry-unfastened over here, open up a buisness here, or marry an American then you definately could have the flexibility to return, however the approach would be lengthy and stressful. Ussually your corporation supplies scientific wellness coverage for you, and because you will might desire to have a activity to flow here i does not complication approximately that. maximum people merely like the British. Santa Barbra is a very good sea coast city with greater than a number of adolescents, yet easily i might stay removed from California. it truly is possibly between the worst states to stay in, in spite of it truly is popularity. persist with the jap 0.5 of the country. the cost of living in Calfornia is amazingly extreme. same with vast apple city. in case you have the money, i might purchase with the way the housing industry is optimal now. you ought to flow to college here, to confirm the kind you like it. remember nevertheless that there are a number of different super cities like Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, Philidaphia, etc. And in case you do not choose for to stay in a city, rural sea facet New England is a super place. there are a number of small cities with greater than a number of adolescents (college cities).

will you be "visiting"
or moving?
the uk is amazing
and has alot to offer
whether it's the cities (london, manchester, dublin, galway, edinburgh, galway, et. al.)
or the vast and beautiful roaming countryside
go spend a month exploring
see what you see

i'm considering grad school in london myself
i love that city

To move there or just visit?

If you're just visiting, then I say go for it! It's an amazing place to see, lots to do, etc.

If you're planning on living there... it's really expensive, crowded, and the healthcare kind of sucks (except if you spend even more for private medical and dental, on top of all of your other living expenses).

Depends on your reasons for leaving america. If you like paying higher taxes, you'll love it there.
