Take a look at this article on changing the activation key for XP home edition. I had to assist a friend with changing their CD Key as they found they had a pirated copy too.

What you need to do is reformat the hard drive, wipe it slick, then install a fresh OS. This does take some knowledge and know how to do correctly though.. Try this site, it has alot of step by step instructions for you to print out, Also remember that when reinstalling the OS, you will need the monitor driver, the sound card driver, etc. they can be obtained from the second link for free, you will need to know the make and model of each to search for them though, and you can sign up for a free account with driverguide, for future need or reference. Good Luck Vivian and have fun with the new pc..

It may require you to format and re-install the new valid copy of XP. Copy all your important stuff to CD or DVD and re-install windows. Make sure you have all your driver software before you do.. soundcard, video card, and all your other software that you want back on there after you re-install windows.

The only way I can tell you to do it is when your computer is starting up hit F11 to enter your BIOS and Have it boot up from disk. Put disk in drive and it should replace old copy of XP.

in case you have "Activated" domicile windows, then that distinctive reproduction of XP isn't able to be put in on a distinctive laptop different than the single you used first. Microsoft does this to "ward off Piracy" yet i for my area think of this is a blow off.
