Call your doctor immediately. It could be some kind of allergic reaction. Seriously, just call the hospital and ask to speak to the doctor on call about your newborn right away.

First off I'm going to tell you the same thing as everyone else, call a doctor.

My daughter broke out in red bloches all over her chest and genitals as a newborn and it turned out to be a yeast infection even though she did not seem to be bother by or itch at it.

The doctor told us an over the counter yeast infection cream would be more gental on her skin than hydrocortizon (sp?) cream. It worked well and her skin was clear in less than a week.

When it comes to a baby, it's better safe than sorry! Definetly call the doc! My daughter has exzema and it's never all of the sudden redness that's like when she's hot. It's like a really itchy rash, usually dry and scaley. Like many suggested it could be a rash. Or he could be really constipated and just *ahem* cannot get it out. My neighbors kid was like that, he cried and cried everytime he had to poop becuase he was perpetually constipated and his face would be red/flushed like he was hot from trying to push.

when you touch his skin, if it stays red, and dosent turn white then back to red, its probally an allregic reaction to formula or lotion. newborns tend to have a reddish tint to thier skin, after a bath, or being changed, because thier skin gets cold, and the blood rushes to the skin to get him warm again. little babies are harder to keep warm, because they are soo small. thats why we have to keep them bundled up. or, he could just have dry skin, which happens alot with newborns. but, if you are at ALL concerned, its always best to call a doctor. if you're not really sure what it is, you can call the hospital and ask to speak with a nurse, if the doctors office is closed. they can tell you if the baby needs to be seen. congrats with the new baby!

This could be hives. Have you been eating a lot of the same thing lately? Or done any thing you have never done? Outside? Take benadryl.

Please call your baby's doctor. Either they will tell you it's nothing to worry about, or perhaps they will want to do a quick check of the babe in the office.

Best wishes from a grandma-aged person.
