Order is valid for me and our two children. I go to court this Wednesday to make it a Restraining Order valid for one year. Can I request it be made a Permanent RO? Anyone know if Washington State offers this? Anyone know how this affects custody issues? I know I need a lawyer but it's Saturday and I'm getting my paperwork, etc in order for Monday. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Without checking Washington state laws (or being licensed to practice law in Washington), I'd hazard a guess that the state does offer a permanent restraining order, but would only issue one where there is an absolute need.

A 1-year order is going to cover you for the interim, and you can always get that order renewed again if there is valid cause. That gives you plenty of time to collect evidence and get legal advice to support any petition for a permanent order.

And yes, getting a restraining order will obviously have an effect on custody issues, but that's something to speak with a licensed attorney about.

I live in the state of Washington and all I know is that if there is a Restraining Order, its valid for 2 years unless you go to court and remove it. Good luck!

You need to get the TRO first. When granted, it will affect any custody issues. Depending on what the charges are, he may get supervised visitation. This would mean, most likely, he would have to go to a neutral place, (such as CPS Office), and have someone present during the visitation. The age of the children will have some affect on this. Good Luck!
