I read that you can't cut them, because it can damage them or something. So is there a way to get rid of them like soaking them in something.

after a soak in the shower or bath, use an orange stick to push them back. carefully trim with nail clippers. moisturize. do this at least twice a month.

OPI's Avoplex Exfoliating Cuticle Treatment is the best for smoothing cuticles. Product info. is a the bottom of this page:http://opi.com/Avoplex.asp
I just apply a drop on each nail, leave the cream on for 5 minutes and use a wash cloth to remove excess cuticles.

I also push back my cuticles w/ a wash cloth in between uses after a shower and keep them moisturized w/ jojoba oil or nail oil.

Yes, please do Not cut your cuticles as they can come in thicker and also more brittle at the sides as mine did. I was younger and believed the nail tech when she said that she would just 'get the frays off'. Needless to say, they were never as strong as they were after that and were very sore afterwards.
