This week I am suppose to have a period but instead I have been spotting and the spots look like brownish-red tar spots instead of blood. What could this be?

You could be spotting before your period, or if you are on birth control, that is a side effect.

It could mean pregnancy. Some women don't skip their first period, but instead it comes very lightly. It could also be a sign of stress, or if you have been exercising more than normal, or eating less that u usually do, that would also interfere. If it continues this next month, or doesn't come at all, then i would go to your doctor. But if pregnancy is a possibility, you might want to take an at-home test to be sure.
